Carolyn Wilson Lawrence, 98, passed away on May 8, 2020, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. At the time of her death, she resided at St. George Village, in Roswell, Georgia. Carolyn was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 5, 1921, to Robert E. Wilson and Zulu Alexander Wilson. She graduated from Woodlawn High School and attended Howard College (now Samford University). She was a war bride, marrying Sherwood H. Lawrence in 1943, with whom she enjoyed a marriage of 60 years duration. Carolyn was adored for her precious sense of humor, generosity and kindness. Her appearance as Lady Gaga at a St. George Halloween party will be long remembered. She was also admired for her impeccable yet exuberant sense of style, which always reflected her deep appreciation of beauty. Adaptable and forward thinking, she retained an optimistic and progressive outlook throughout her long life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Jack A. Wilson, and her sister Doris McGarry. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Lawrence James (Stuart) and their daughter, Hadley Horne (Austin). She is also survived by her son, Sherwood H. Lawrence, Jr. (Bonnie), and his sons, Sherwood H. Lawrence V, known as “Shey” (Leanne), and Richard Lawrence (Paige). She has two great grandsons, Will and Trey, children of Shey and Leanne. She is also survived by her dear friend, Wilma Duvall, whose loyalty and devotion to Carolyn and her family is deeply appreciated. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the staff at St. George Village for the exceptional kindness and respect shown to Carolyn and to her family. The family also extends their warm thanks to the staff of Agape Hospice, and particularly Vickie Barnes, her hospice nurse. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association. Carolyn will be interred at Jefferson Memorial Garden in Birmingham, Alabama, beside her husband. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, no visitation will take place and no memorial service is scheduled at this time.
