Darrell Lee Flowe passed away on Thursday, March 24th at the age of 68. He was holding his bride’s hand and spent the hours before and after his passing surrounded by his children who love him. Darrell was the son of Carl and Patsy Flowe. He was born in Charlotte, grew up in Decatur, went to college in Athens, became a man in Birmingham, worked hard in Memphis, and ultimately planted permanent roots in Roswell, Georgia where he and Pam raised three boys into men. He loved his wife, his sons, his daughters-in-law, and his grandchildren with his whole heart. Darrell loved God. There probably wasn’t a day that he didn’t wake up early to spend time in his chair communing with His Father. If you’re reading this, it’s likely he was praying for you on more than one occasion. Darrell and Pam were married for over 45 years. Theirs was not a love of convenience. It was a love built on the foundation of a deep faith in God and a deep trust in His plan for their lives. They were committed to each other and were true partners and best friends. He always opened her door, and she always held his hand and was by his side until his very last breath. It’s the kind of love that knows no limits and has no end. When you walked in his door, he would hand you the best cup of coffee or a tall glass of water before you even realized you needed it. He would check your tires when he came to your house. “You better inspect what you expect,” and he would, of course, find the nail in your tire long before you ended up on the side of the road with a flat. He was always anticipating people’s needs and finding little ways to care for those in his life in such tangible and specific ways. When he called, you would intentionally not answer the phone so you could get a two-minute voicemail that would make your day. He loved baseball, and he loved coaching. He loved playing golf and being with his friends. He loved to plant Pam’s favorite flowers all over their yard, and his back porch is one of the most peaceful places on earth. He loved the Braves and the Bulldogs, and it should bring a smile to the face of any Georgia fan to know that the 2021 season surely was for Darrell. He was a gifted businessman, but more importantly, he was kind. He would say, “It’s all about relationships,” and he truly lived that way in all areas of his life. He took time to get to know people. Darrell mentored so many and had a special ability to really see the people around him - in so many big and small ways, he loved to care generously and deeply for people. Darrell was a good man who raised good men. And I’m not sure there’s a better thing you can say about a person. Darrell is survived by his wife, Pam, who he cherished more than anything on this earth. His three boys and their families: Jared (Emily, Lincoln, Levi); Kendall (Sara, Griffin, Barrett); Michael (Alex, Ryan, Livia). His brother Cecil (Penny, Shelby, Patrick). And many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Turn Around Kids.
