Mr. Jimmy Don Summerour Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jimmy Don Summerour was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He left this world on the morning of July 1, 2022, at the age of 83 after battling Dementia for well over 15 years. During his entire battle with Dementia, he always kept his contagious sense of humor, smile, and uplifting attitude. He was born to John Lafayette and Ethel Moody Summerour on July 11, 1938 in Moultrie, Georgia, and he grew up in Alpharetta, Georgia. Jimmy married Mary Jane Floyd (of Brookhaven, Georgia) on January 23, 1959. Together they had a single child, Jason, and they lived a wonderful and happy life together on a farm in Cumming, GA. Jimmy’s talents and love applied to hunting, fishing, gardening, and anything outdoors. He used those talents to help teach younger men the joy of hunting and fishing, while imparting wisdom into their lives. Jimmy was a fiercely dedicated husband and father, and was always willing to work as hard as needed, and sacrifice to provide for his family. Jimmy’s career spanned the Petroleum industry, working as a Dispatcher, but he also worked at Ryder (Doraville, GA) for a few years. Jimmy was very active in church, served as a deacon at Crabapple Baptist Church in Crabapple, Georgia, and helped incubate and build Lanier Baptist Church in Cumming, Georgia. Jimmy was a true believer, and was dedicated to raising a family whose guiding principles and moral character were based on strong Biblical beliefs and scripture. We take comfort in knowing that he’s resting peacefully with The Lord and his beautiful bride, and that he is finally free of the cruel disease we know as Dementia. While we will greatly miss having such a wise, yet funny father and friend in our lives, his impact will live on through many generations. Matthew 25:21 “His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 4-8pm at Northside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 2pm at Northside Chapel Funeral Home, with internment following at Green Lawn Cemetery.
