Mrs. Kathleen M. Monroe Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Kathleen M. Monroe of Milton, age 92, passed away May 28, 2022. She was born December 12, 1929, in Forsyth County, Georgia to Roy and Gertie McGinnis. She was married to Walter Ivan Monroe for 46 years before he preceded her in death December 1993. Kathleen graduated from Cumming High School in 1946 and was a faithful member of Hightower Baptist Church. She had a strong work ethic and retired at the age of 80 after over 40 years with Fulton County Schools. She loved her coworker family at the school district’s North Maintenance office, and they adored her as well. Kathleen and Ivan loved to square dance and were active members of the local club. They were huge UGA football fans and were off to Athens on fall Saturdays to cheer on the Bulldogs. Kathleen was an accomplished seamstress and sewed for family, friends, and community members. She enjoyed gardening, and her summers were filled with canning and freezing vegetables. She loved to take trips and was quite adventurous in many of her travels. Holidays and special occasions were a time for hosting family and friends at her house with a full spread of her delicious home cooked meals. She never forgot a birthday, and you could expect that a home cooked birthday cake was coming your way! Kathleen touched many lives and will be remembered as a loving, caring and loyal mother, mother-in-law, Grandmother, Grammy, co-worker, friend and neighbor. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ivan Monroe; infant son, Phillip Monroe; father and mother, Roy and Gertie McGinnis; sister Marie Fraser (J.B.); brothers Roy C. McGinnis (Jeanette) and Joseph Dillard McGinnis. She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Lenora) and Ronald (Debbie); sister-in-law Syble McGinnis; grandchildren, Jessica Duncan, Matthew Monroe, Stephanie Barrett, Daniel Monroe and Chris Monroe; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; special friends, the Edwin Wilkie family. The funeral service will be held at the Northside Chapel Funeral Directors chapel on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 3 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and on Saturday, from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell.
