Mrs. Marilyn Holder King
November 4, 1934 - March 14, 2020
Marilyn King, age 85, of Roswell, Georgia passed away on Saturday March 14, 2020. Marilyn was born in Long Beach, CA to James and Helen Holder, of Woodstock GA, on November 4, 1934. She graduated from West Fulton High School in 1952, and then from Oglethorpe University in 1956. Marilyn was a member of the generation of the trailblazing women rejoining the workforce in the 1970’s and worked for Georgia State University in the Economics Department, from which she retired. Marilyn was an artist at heart and loved painting and drawing. She was also an animal lover and had several beloved pets over the years. In her later years, she thoroughly enjoyed watching the neighborhood birds in the backyard feeder. In all that she undertook, Marilyn exhibited remarkable perseverance and a wonderful sense of humor. She was an inspiration to all that knew her. Marilyn traveled extensively, both as a child and as an adult. Throughout her life she had the opportunity to call China, Hawaii, Spain and many places in the United States home. She and her parents were living in Hawaii at the time of the attack of Pearl Harbor and later lived there with her own family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Marilyn is survived by her brother Albert Holder, her son Doug (Pam) King, and her daughter Lynn (Joe) Thomas. Also, she leaves behind a grandson, James King and three step-grandchildren Cassidy (Andy) Corley, Stephen Ayres, and Aislinn Ayres. At her request, Marilyn will be memorialized at a future date in Hawaii, a location that she loved.
