Mr. Michael J. Ramsey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Michael Jon Ramsey— a friendly face at the Kroger meat counter for hundreds, a mentor to many and a friend to all—passed away June 29, 2021, in Cumming, Georgia at the age of 77. Born July 19, 1943 in Wooster, Ohio to Walter and Jane Ramsey, Mike was one of 5 children. Dave Ramsey (Shirley), Betsey Arlinghaus (Neil), Pat Gray (Randy) and Dan Ramsey. Mike was educated in Richmond, Indiana where he attended Richmond High School and met his sweetheart of almost 57 years; Marsha Ann Lawhorn. Mike attended Ohio State University on an ROTC scholarship and served in the Navy Reserves. Mike and Marsha married July 26, 1964 and lived in Richmond for 17 years before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he got a job with Fabricut. There they adopted their children Kori Roney (Paul) and Matthew Ramsey (Kara). In 1992, the family moved to Alpharetta, Georgia where Mike commuted to Dahlonega to work for Ethan Allen. An avid golfer, Mike enjoyed playing courses all over the US, belonging to a few country clubs and getting to watch the Masters at Augusta National on several occasions with his children. In later years, Mike tried retirement, but ended up at the Kroger meat counter where he provided countless customers with his dry sense of humor and kind heart. Mike is survived by his wife, children, brothers and sisters, sisters in law; Sharon Pardo (John) and Vicki Snarr (Greg), brothers in law; Les Lawhorn (Nancy) and Bret Rugg (Nancy) as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend and favorite brown hound, Maverick. The family wishes to thank Northside Forsyth Hospital and the kind people at the Seasons Hospice for taking such loving care of him. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mike’s life on July 2, 2021 at the Northside Chapel off Crabapple Rd. 12050 Crabapple Rd. Roswell, GA 30075. Visitation will be from 10-11 am with a memorial following. The family invites you to a reception at the home of daughter, Kori and son in law Paul’s in Jasper.
