Mr. Tommy Howard Phillips

July 21, 1948 - December 7, 2021

Tommy Howard Phillips age 73 of Alpharetta passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 7, 2021. Tommy was born on July 21, 1948 in Atlanta to Howard and Juanell Draper Phillips. He graduated from Sylvan High School in Atlanta. After high school he went on to play football at the University of Georgia and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. Tommy retired as the Head of Right of Way from the GA Department of Transportation. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with the Monday lunch bunch from the DOT. Tommy spent years coaching his two boys and that in turn influenced their desire to become high school basketball coaches. Tommy never missed a basketball game that his sons have coached. He enjoyed working in the yard, in his workshop and estate sale shopping with Julianna. Family was the most important thing to Tommy and he absolutely loved being a the best Poppy to his three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Julianna Skoglund Phillips, sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy Howard Phillips, Jr. (Ty) and Jennifer Lathem Phillips of Roswell, Gregory Holmes Phillips and Joanna Stotter Phillips of Duluth; grandchildren, Palmer Olivia Phillips, Tommy Howard Phillips III and Amelia Nell Phillips; sister, Patricia Phillips Breed along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation where Tommy’s father, Howard worked as a firefighter. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at 3PM in the funeral home chapel. The family asks that everyone wear red in honor of Tommy’s love for UGA. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1PM to 3PM at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors.
