Mrs. Betty Jane Kegel

Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Rund Kegel left to join her husband Jerry in Heaven on Thursday July 19, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on January 24, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan to Esther Mary Trombley Rund and Joseph Frank Rund. She was born at home at only seven months, and her mother continually worried that Betty Jane would be weak because she came early - but she turned out to be very strong! She was actually a very strong woman who was almost never sick! All that knew her admired her strength. She married Jerome (Jerry) Charles Kegel (Lt) on August 10, 1944 in Dyersburg, Tennessee at the U.S. Army Air Corps Base where he was stationed prior to serving as a B-17 Navigator flying missions out of Foggia Italy. Betty worked at the tank arsenal and at General Motors to assist our armed forces in their victory with the other Allies in WWII. Betty and Jerry had two daughters, Claudia Christine and Marlee Lynne. They lived from one coast to the other and in between, as Jerry’s career as a Mechanical Engineer had him transfer quite a bit. Betty had visited all the contiguous 48 states! She was a loving wife and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Joseph Rund, her husband, Jerry Kegel, and her siblings James (Jim) Rund, Robert (Bob) Rund, and Patricia Rund Lowe. She is survived by both of her daughters, Claudia Saxton (John) of Orangevale California, and Marlee Warner (Stephen) of Atlanta Georgia. She is also survived by her six granddaughters Nicole Saxton Landers (Joe) of Petaluma, California; Taryne Saxton Amado of Orangevale, California; Amanda Saxton Hickman (Jarred) of Conroe, Texas; Kendra Saxton Crooks (Matt) of Maple Valley, Washington; Martelle Warner of New York City, New York; and Elysia Warner of Atlanta, Georgia. And she is also survived by ten great grandchildren Arrangements are as follows: Visitation at Northside Chapel Funeral Home in Alpharetta, Georgia, Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 6 - 8 PM. Service 11 AM on Monday, July 23, 2018 at St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Dunwoody followed by a luncheon reception. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Barnabas Anglican Church Dunwoody, whose clergy and parishioners were such a blessing to Betty during her life, or to a charity of your choosing.
