Charles Graham

Charles T. Graham was born July 25th, 1924 in Milton County Georgia, the son of Hillman Graham and Drusilla Anglin-Graham. He was the eighth of eleven children. Charles attended Northwestern School in the Crabapple community through the 7th grade, after which he left school to help his family on the farm. At the end of 1943 with World War II raging in Europe and the Pacific, Charles, then 19 years old, was drafted into the military at Fort McPherson and was assigned to the 120th infantry regiment of the 30th Division. With this unit Charles fought through France, Belgium and Holland before being wounded by a mortar shell in action at the German town of Aachen. After a period of convalescence at a hospital in England, Charles returned to the front lines in Germany where he served until the end of the War in Europe, earning a number of commendations including the Purple Heart. After the war, Charles returned to the Roswell area where he began his long career as an auto parts specialist at Ford dealers in the area. He also resumed his participation in his favorite past time, baseball. During his time as third baseman for the Roswell VFW team, a courtship began with one of his fans, Miss Nancy Johnson also of Roswell, and in 1952 Charles and Nancy were married. Nancy was truly the love of Charles' life and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together until her death in 2007. Friends of Charles and Nancy know them from the Greenway Community in Roswell, and later their retirement home in Cleveland GA. At the time of his death Charles was a resident of Chambrel Assisted Living Center of Roswell. He is survived by one sister, Johnie Lou (Mrs Harold) Turner of Cumming, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Charles will be missed for his perpetual good nature and friendly, easy going disposition. Charles Graham is indeed a fine individual example of “the greatest generation”. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Horace Richards and Elder Edward Cagle officiating. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery. The family will recieve friends on Monday from 6-8 pm and Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Rd., Roswell, 770-645-1414
