Mr. Charles David MacWilliams Jr.

Charles David MacWilliams, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully January 5, 2026, at the age of 95. He is known for his entertaining stories and jokes, a lifetime of work experiences, and devotion to family and country. Born in Chicago on May 8, 1930, Charles began working odd jobs as early as age six, including delivering flowers and setting up pins at a bowling alley. His family moved to Cincinnati for his freshman year of high school, and he graduated from Withrow High School in 1949. He went on to The Ohio State University, where his studies were interrupted by his service in the US Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he returned to Ohio State University and graduated with a B.S. in Forestry. He married Margaret Ann Bartsch, who was also from Cincinnati, in 1954. They raised three children: Steve, Martha, and Katie. Charles enjoyed a long and successful career in agricultural sales. He worked over 20 years with USS Agri-Chemicals, culminating in an executive sales position in Atlanta, where he and his family moved in 1974. After retiring from USS Agri-Chemicals in 1986, he continued to work for another 20+ years for the Paul Moore Company and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. After his wife Margaret passed in 2002, Charles married Elsa Roberts in 2004. Charles and Elsa were members of Roswell United Methodist Church. Elsa passed this past December 2025. Charles lived life to the fullest. He was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to providing for and protecting those he loved. No matter the setting, Charles always had a story to tell—often filled with humor, wisdom, and memories from a life well lived. For example, he loved the American west, as he visited Colorado as a young boy and hitchhiked to Idaho as a teenager to work for the U.S. Forest Service in putting out forest fires. Those stories and others will continue to be shared and cherished by his vast network of family and friends. Charles will be deeply missed by his daughter-in-law Debbie Daniels MacWilliams (Steve), and daughters Martha MacWilliams Weiss (John) and Katie MacWilliams DeCastro (Troy); his seven grandchildren: Chris MacWilliams (Ally), Melanie MacWilliams Moser (Jim), Sandy Weiss Bosak (Brad), Hayley MacWilliams Sperr (Evan), Lauren Weiss (Igor), Claire DeCastro, and Maggie DeCastro; seven great-grandchildren: Merrin, Jack, Ellia, Clara, Corbin, Margot, and Dominic. Charles was preceded in death by his wives and by his son, Steven Charles MacWilliams. Charles had a long, full, and meaningful life—and he will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Brookdale Chambrel Roswell, 1000 Applewood Dr., at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the USO (United Service Organizations) by mail or electronically.
