Mrs. Genevieve Sophie Schumann Blume

GENEVIEVE SCHUMANN BLUME , born Jan.24,1918 and passed away October 11, 2016. She was a native of New Braunfels, TX. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Bob Thomas Her grandchildren are Dr. Bradley Winston Thomas, married to Tracy Carswell Thomas who have two children, Charlie and recently born Emilia Mae who live in Charlotte. Brent Wesley Thomas lives in Colorado, and is recently married to Brianne. Ashley K. Thomas lives in Duluth, Ga. and is an exceptional youth minister. Genevieve’s oldest sister, Bernise Taylor, has passed away and her son, Jack Taylor will represent his family and will be one of the pallbearers. Her brother, Aubrey Schumann, who lived in Colorado, passed away but his son, Paul Schumann will also represent his family and be a pallbearer. She attended Solms Elementary School in New Braunfels, TX and graduated from Draughons Business School. After her initial education was completed she accepted a job with Dittlinger Flour Mills in New Braunfels. She then worked at National Catholic Community Service, a form of USO in San Antonio, TX. During that time, she was President of CYO, which serviced both cities of Austin and San Antonio. She attended St. Mary’s University and went to San Antonio Junior College for art. Genevieve was engaged to Karl Kappas,, who was killed at sea during World War II. In the subsequent years, she continued to work for NCCS in San Antonio. Some of her responsibilities while working at NNCS involved acting as a tour guide with Fiesta Tours, while taking military groups to Monterrey, Mexico. Following that time, she met and married Joseph John Blume in the St. Mary’s University Chapel of San Antonio . The service was performed by his own brother, Fr. Louis Blume. They moved to Chicago. Two years later, their only child, Pamela Yvonne Blume was born. After Pam left for college, Genevieve worked at Scott Paper Company for 28 years. Sixteen years ago, she moved down to Atlanta to be close to her family whom her world revolved around. Her oldest grandson, LCDR Bradley W Thomas is a board certified trauma surgeon, who served in the Navy for a 3 year term and was deployed. He graduated from Wake Forest University Undergraduate and School of Medicine in Winston-Salem,NC . Brent, also graduated from Wake Forest University, lives in Colorado , an entrepleur with his business of www.bikewrappers.comm which was highlighted on a segment of CNN. Ashley, her youngest and only granddaughter, graduated from Marist School, Franciscan University and is employed as a youth minister at St. Monica in Duluth, Ga. The family lived in Hong Kong. Genevieve was notorious for never missing any grandchild’s birthday no matter what state or continent they lived in. She loved to travel and her travels took her to all continents except South America, She has been to many places in Europe, the Holy Land, the Great Barrier Reef and the Great Wall of China. She loved cruising on Alaskan and Mediterranean cruise ships. Her travels are over and she was grateful to be at St George where she met some many wonderful and friendly people.
