James David Cagle Sr.

James David Cagle Sr., also known as “Big Dave”, passed away on Tuesday April 23, 2013 at his home in Marietta, Georgia. Although it was way too soon, he is now in the arms of his Lord and Savior. He leaves his devoted parents, J. Douglas and Gloria Cagle; his loving grandmother, Mary Waters; his compassionate brother, Doug Cagle and wife Jackie; his honored children, Candace Brown and husband Mark, David Cagle Jr., and Tristen Cagle; his beloved dog Petey; and so many close friends. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia David spent much of his childhood showing Tennessee Walking horses. This was a past time that he shared with his father and brother and was awarded several blue ribbons in his class. He attended Briarwood High School where he emerged as a basketball star graduating in 1972. David was awarded a basketball scholarship to Berry College in Rome, Georgia. He also spent time at The University of Georgia and Georgia State University where he became a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. His schooling prepared him to begin his career with Cagle’s Inc. as he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, whom he looked up to very much. David spent 38 years with Cagle’s Inc. giving his all as he served as a Vice President and on The Board of Directors. As David had always been a basketball star with a pretty jump shot, he then found a new love and hobby in bodybuilding. This truly showed his dedication and relentless mentality. Not only was he Mr. Georgia Masters but, through this he has also made so many lasting friendships that he valued more than words can describe. To this day, David is a fixture in the gym amongst his peers. After retirement, David often talked about three things that he enjoyed and spent time doing. One, his dog Petey. Petey was his companion and friend who even got to share in a hot apple pie from McDonalds quite often. Secondly, David also had met an amazing group of men that he shared breakfast with every morning at J. Christopher’s. He loved how they were all of different ages and from different walks of life. And lastly, David had found a new home at Buckhead Church. He attended every Sunday and had restored his faith and grew in his Christian walk. He had become part of a volunteer group that was mentoring high school kids. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations be made to The Buckhead Church in honor of David. The family will receive friends in a visitation memorial on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 6pm-8pm. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 2pm to honor our beloved son, brother, father, and friend. All events will be held at Northside Chapel at 12050 Crabapple Road Roswell, Georgia 30075.
