Mrs. Janice Garmon Tarpley

Janice Garmon Tarpley, age 71, of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away peacefully on June 14, 2019. She was born in Atlanta, June 21, 1947 to Edgar (“Lefty”) and Margarite Garmon. Janice married her longtime friend and high school sweetheart, Joe Tarpley, in June of 1968. Janice loved God and loved people. She always took care of others before herself. She was actively involved in First Baptist Church of Alpharetta where she was a GA and Acteens leader, Sunday School teacher, and participated in several ministries, including Threads of Love, making dolls and dresses for premature infants. She also taught at the church preschool for over 10 years. For many years, Janice worked at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. It suited her servant heart. She loved working at the front desk with the volunteers and serving the patients and families. She made several long-term friends with volunteers and patients alike. Her life was a living example of one of her favorite bible verses, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) Janice was the recent “Resident of the Month” at Windsor House Assisted Living in Canton. During this interview, her daughters learned of her lifelong desire to sky dive. Although she never got to fulfill this dream, the last three years of her life at Windsor House were filled with wonderful friendships, weekly shopping trips, and other fun memories. Janice is survived by her daughters, Julie Bilyeu of Mooresville, NC; Jennie Montgomery and her husband, Adam, of Canton, GA; June Gwartney and her husband, Brad, of DeLand, FL; grandchildren Abigail & Caleb Bilyeu, Jack Montgomery, and Lydia & Will Gwartney; Sisters in Law, Barbara Garmon of Alpharetta, GA and Patricia Morris of Westminster, CO, as well as nieces and a nephew. All of whom she loved and touched deeply. Janice is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, her in-laws, her brother, Larry Garmon, and her granddaughter, Ella Montgomery. Please join the family to celebrate her life on Wednesday, June 19th at 1:00pm in the Chapel at the First Baptist Church of Alpharetta, 45 Academy St., Alpharetta. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 18th from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell.
