Ms. Kiersten Dickson

Kiersten Isabella Dickson, of Woodstock GA, was born on July 25th, 1994, and passed away on July 22, 2015, three days prior to her 21ST birthday. Kiersten is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, John Joseph Dickson; maternal grandfather, David Butler, and her aunt, Mishi Dickson. She is survived by her parents, John Eric and Shawn Dickson; sister, Erin Dickson; maternal grandmother, Nancy Butler; paternal grandmother, Josephine Dickson; uncle, Robert Dickson; and niece, Nadia Dickson. Kiersten started playing soccer at age 5. She played for several club soccer teams, including NASA, Cherokee Impact and Georgia Rush. She played in every game for 4 years of varsity soccer at Sequoyah High School as a defender. She also played soccer at the University of West Georgia; not only did she excel in sports she also excelled academically. Kiersten was an honor student, taking honors and Advanced Placement classes in high school. She also participated in cross country running and multiple student clubs. Kiersten was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and singing. She loved animals; of the family’s 12 pets (5 dogs and 7 cats) she accounted for 3 cats and a dog. She also loved clothes shopping but only if she was getting an amazing deal. Kiersten attended the University of West Georgia her freshman year. She then transferred to Georgia State University for her sophomore and junior years. She majored in International Economics with a minor in German. Kiersten was actively involved in the International Student’s Association at both UWG and GSU. Through these associations, she formed lifelong friendships with people from all over the world. Kiersten loved traveling, especially her trips to Japan, the Philippines, Germany and Canada. She was an adventurous gastronome who particularly loved sushi. Kiersten loved people in general and was not judgmental, which led to her amazing and diverse group of friends, many of whom we now consider to be family. Kiersten was mature beyond her years, even after receiving her cancer diagnosis her personality did not change. She was as warm and friendly as ever. She also did not slow down, she continued to go to GSU, even while receiving chemotherapy and radiation. No matter how Kiersten felt, she always had a smile on her face and kind words for other people. Her personality and positive energy shines through in all her pictures. This is Kiersten’s legacy to all of us - a legacy of love, strength and kindness.
