Mrs. Nellie Echols

Nellie Anderson Echols, age 89, of Sharpsburg, Georgia passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, September 12, 2019. She is now happily reunited with her husband of 64 years, Herman “Jake” Echols, who preceded her in death on March 6, 2013. Nellie was also preceded in death by her father, G.W. Anderson, her mother, Cora Lou Rucker Anderson, and four brothers. Nellie, lovingly known as “Ninny” to her family, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a dedicated servant to her Heavenly Father and a charter member of First Christian Church of Roswell. A native of North Fulton county, she resided in Roswell and Sandy Springs for much of her life. Nellie graduated from Milton High School in Alpharetta and attended Atlanta Christian College in East Point (now known as Point University). She was employed with Fulton County Schools for 22 years prior to retiring in 1992. After relocating to Sharpsburg, she continued to fulfill her passion for service and became an active member of Christ’s Church at Whitewater in Fayetteville, GA. Nellie was a longtime member of the Lamplighter Sunday School class and participated in other church ministries. In her spare time, she was always committed to caring for her family, her many cats, and her famous vegetable garden. In her later years as she diligently battled dementia, Nellie was blessed to have Dinah Atkins as her caregiver and the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care to ensure every need was met. Nellie is survived by her son David Echols and his wife Pam of Canton, GA and daughter Jenny Walker and her husband Blair of Sharpsburg. Nellie is also survived by four grandchildren: Monica Oliveira and her husband Jim of Canton, GA; Mandy Robinson and her husband Shannon of Buford, GA; Seth Walker and his wife Anna of Marietta, GA; and Jacob Walker and his fiancée Kenzie Kesselring of Denver, CO. Nellie was adored by five great-grandchildren: Isabelle Robinson, Atticus Oliveira, Micah Robinson, Taran Oliveira, and Anderson Walker. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Northside Chapel in Roswell, 12050 Crabapple Road. The family will receive friends and loved ones at Northside Chapel on Friday, September 13, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Saturday, September 14, at 10:00 am prior to the service. We will sorely miss her generosity, humor, wit, and sweet spirit. “Our brief partings on earth will appear one day as nothing beside the joy of eternity together.”
