Phil Bennett

Philip Emmett Bennett died peacefully at his home on December 27, 2012 with his loving wife, Jill at his side. Phil was born November 11, 1953, living to the age of 59 while enjoying a full life with his family and friends. Phil was the son of Emmett C. Bennett and stepmother Joan Bennett of Gwinnett County, and mother, Norma Bennett, of Saluda, SC. He was a native Atlantan and grew up in the Buckhead area. He earned his Associate’s degree at DeKalb Community College and continued his studies at Georgia State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Management. He began his career working in accounting and finance – working up to Comptroller. In 1995, Phil started his business, PDQ Services, in a space bedroom of his home. PDQ was his pride and joy and his employees became an extension of his family. He met his wife “Jill” Joan Smith Bennett 37 years ago and they were married in Atlanta in 1978. They raised a family in Marietta, Georgia. Phil was known for smiles and his infectious laugh; he had a joke for all he met. He was a longtime fan of the Falcons and Braves and enjoyed playing golf and Alta tennis. He loved to travel and explore new places, always wanting to learn more. Phil was very civic minded and a natural leader where he served his neighbors, business associates, family and friends. Phil is survived by his wife Jill Smith Bennett; his two children, Andrew Bennett and Laura Bennett of Marietta; his son’s fiancé, Jessica Vega of Sandy Springs; his stepmother Joan Bennett; brother, Michael Lee Bennett of Dacula, married to Shirley Lunsford Bennett and their daughter Nicole Bennett; sister-in-law Julie Smith Franklin and husband Andrew Franklin of Sandy Springs and daughter Sarah; cousins, countless friends and his beloved employees at PDQ. The Bennett family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Sunday, December 30 at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors in Roswell. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church on Monday, December 31 at 10:30 AM, with Father Peter Rau to officiate. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church, 11330 Woodstock Rd., Roswell, GA 30075.
