Mr. Robert "Morris" Carter

Robert ‘Morris’ Carter, 94, passed away from natural causes on July 26, 2024. He was born to Charles and Fanny Lou Carter on May 25, 1930. He was the second oldest of 5 children (a 6th passed just after birth) and grew up in rural north Georgia in the then small town of Alpharetta. The Carters were share-croppers and enjoyed a simple life without indoor plumbing and electricity. Morris attended Amy L Dodd elementary and graduated from Milton High School in 1948. After high school, Morris started a job downtown with Sears and Roebuck in their catalog distribution center. He split his time between Jefferson Street and the Ponce de Leon locations in various roles with Sears. In 1950, Morris was called on by his country to join the war efforts during the Korean conflict. Because of his keen administrative abilities, he remained stateside serving throughout the war. After the war, Morris returned to Sears and remained there serving until retirement in 1989 after a 41-year career. In 1958 Morris married his sweetheart Geneva on a snowy day in February. Their honeymoon was cut short because a rare heavy snow in Florida. Morris and Geneva had a daughter, Patti, in 1962, a son Robert Jr in 1964, and another son Matthew in 1968. Morris led his family spiritually as the children grew and served at Clear Springs Baptist Church in Alpharetta. The family was heavily involved with the church’s ministries for decades. Morris was a deacon and served on several committees from the early 1960’s until his death. His passion was to see the church grow and those who did not know God to become believers, saved and baptized as Christians. Morris deeply loved the outdoors and especially fishing and softball. He often carried his kids fishing and led a softball ministry for the church for over 20 years at old Ocee park. His love for the Atlanta Braves was great as he rarely missed a game. In retirement Morris enjoyed gardening. During this season, he and Geneva traveled across the US in their 60’s and 70’s enjoying the beauty of our national parks, other great landmarks and monuments. In retirement, Morris and Geneva began serving the seniors in the church and community with visits, gifts, meals, and service. For over 30 years, they served seniors across the Alpharetta area and had a great passion to do so. His heart for ministry and for family was always evident throughout all of his days. Morris was preceded in death by his parents Charles, Fanny Lou and his sister Catherine Ayers and grandson Brendan Carter. He is survived by brothers Gene and Jerry Carter and sister Annette Ness, children Patti Dooley (Matthew) of Woodstock, Robert Carter jr. (Sherry) of Suwanee, Matthew Carter (Deanna)of Jasper, 10 grandchildren Aaron Carter (Claire), Jordan Carter, Harrison Dooley, Victoria Dooley, Levi Carter, Emma Carter, Caroline Meder (Joey), Christian Carter, Aidan Carter, and Isaac Carter. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Northside Chapel. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel beginning at 1:00pm.
